At South Austin car wash, dinosaurs come alive for three quarters

Jurassic Car Wash on South Congress Avenue now has two coin-operated dinosaurs in addition to the other dinosaur attractions

Put 75 cents into the slot and flip the switch to Tyrannosaurus rex and a 300-pound animatronic T. rex 12 feet long and 6 feet tall will roar, bob his head up and down, move from side to side and flick his tail. Then if you put another 75 cents in the slot and flip the switch, you’ll get to see a similarly sized Styracasurus (similar to a triceratops) roar and bob its head up and down. You have to have quarters to play.

There’s also a Velociraptor hatching its chicks that does not move.

The car wash also has a dinosaur that sometimes squirts at cars as they enter. Timing is everything here because if it squirted the car in front of you, it might not squirt your car. Enough pressure has to build up for it to squirt. The car wash costs $5 to $10.

There’s also a Pterodactyl on the roof that is supposed to come alive every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but we didn’t see that while we were there and we were there at the 30-minute mark and the hour mark. We also didn’t see the Dilophosaurus that’s also supposed to come alive as well.

But if your kids love dinosaurs and you’re looking for an inexpensive way to thrill them this summer, this might be the ticket.

The car wash is open 24-hours a day and is at 4809 S. Congress Ave.

Of course, as soon as you do get your car washed, it will rain. It took 35 minutes for that to happen to us last week.

They had developed the first four of an eight-unit condominium project in West Austin and moved into one of the units as a young couple with a baby. The next four units were developed by another party, but they retained architectural control to make sure that the units...

Turning our actions into a beautiful prayer in honor of Bahá’í founder

As I ponder the plight of the peoples of the world, all they endure beyond the recent storms and fires, mass shootings reported and unreported, the silent and ever so loud drum of suffering and tribulation, a knowing emerges: it is through loss, adversity and defeat that we come face to face with the meaning of life, beyond the facade of the material...

Visitors to the Elisabet Ney Museum in Central Austin get to see some of the renowned sculptures of the German-born artist who lived and worked at her studio there from 1892 to 1907. However, some who tour the museum in the Hyde Park neighborhood might be curious, as well, to see the grasses, wildflowers and more on the roughly 2 1/2-acre grounds....

Talk to kids about sexual harassment, whether at school or first jobs

Shame on you, Harvey Weinstein. That’s been the rallying cry for the last few weeks from a lot of people on social media, on TV news programs and beyond. The allegations of sexual assault and the possibility of the Weinstein Co. having a culture of looking the other way, and possibly even helping to arrange encounters, sickened us. We took to...
