Three museum exhibits to see Thanksgiving weekend

12:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016 Austin360

Museum exhibits offer diversions to entertain family and friends during this holiday weekend.

“Elliott Erwitt: At Home Around the World.” Last year, the Ransom Center acquired the archive of noted 89-year-old photographer Elliott Erwitt with its 47,500 vintage and modern black-and-white prints. Now more than 200 images are on exhibit, representing Erwitt’s impressive seven decades of work. Erwitt’s playful yet sensitive eye captured black-and-white candid shots of everyday happenings, whimsical portraits of dogs, children at play on the street and poignant city scenes. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Jan. 1. Harry Ransom Center, 300 W. 21st St. Free. 512-471-8944, hrc.utexas.edu.

“Warhol By the Book.” Andy Warhol may be most identified with his paintings of Campbell’s Soup cans and of celebrities like Jackie Kennedy Onassis. But long before Warhol became an art superstar, he spent more than a decade as a commercial illustrator and book designer. From the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh comes an exhibit featuring Warhol’s book-related art, from his early illustrations in the 1950s to his celebrity-centric photo books of the 1980s. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Jan. 29. Blanton Museum of Art, 200 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. $5-$9; free on Thursdays. 512-471-7324, blantonmuseum.org.

“Monica Sosnowska: Habitat.” After a monthslong remodel, the Contemporary Austin reopens its downtown venue with a stunning, immersive exhibit by Polish artist Monica Sosnowska, who has created a labyrinthine series of corridors that lead to smaller, triangular rooms, each containing a single sculpture. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday through Feb. 26. Jones Center, 700 Congress Ave. $3-$5; free on Tuesdays. 512-453-5312, thecontemporaryaustin.org.
