Glen Campbell enters final stage of Alzheimer’s

Last summer the wife of country music legend Glen Campbell reported that the family had moved Campbell, who has Alzheimer’s, from a memory care facility back to the family's home. Kim Campbell was cautiously optimistic about being able to spend more time with her husband, who was in the latter stages of Alzheimer’s.

She, family members and friends came together to take care of the ailing musician, 79, to the couple’s Nashville home. Before that, he had spent the last year in a memory care center.

But Kim told People in an interview in October that Glen proved to be too much to handle at home. While Kim said that Glen is the “sweetest person in the world,” the disease can make him combative when bathing and dressing.

The award-winning musician was later moved to a new facility, where Kim visits him every day. She told People that occasionally, Glen would look at her and say, “I love you.”

Now, five years after being diagnosed, Campbell has entered Stage 7, the final phase, of the degenerative disease.

"He's lost most of his ability to communicate verbally, but he still understands the universal language of smiles and kisses," Kim told WTSP. "Our family (has chosen) to rally together in love and laughter and just support one another and try to make the best of each day and cherish every moment together."

In a documentary called Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, Campbell and his family allowed cameras to observe the difficult time after his diagnosis and to showcase his farewell tour.
