Austin Eastciders has become one of the most ubiquitous local drink brands around, but the cidery hasn’t had a tasting room of its own where fans can sip on the roster of five main ciders — until now.
The tasting room opens Nov. 16 in Eastciders’ original urban headquarters on Springdale Road, next door to the also popular brewery Friends & Allies Brewing in an increasingly buzzy East Austin neighborhood. The new 1,960-square-foot tasting room has an industrial vibe balanced with the warmth of natural lighting and festoon string lights, according to a news release.
In addition to being able to sip the five main flavors of Original, Texas Honey, Hopped, Pineapple and Blood Orange, visitors to the tasting room will also be able to try smaller batch ciders, such as Cucumber and Ruby Red Grapefruit and barrel-aged options like the Bourbon Barrel-Aged and Cabernet Sauvignon ciders, on five rotating taps.
These limited wares had been hard for Eastciders to offer without a tasting room. People will be able to enjoy all the ciders on-site or take the main ones home in six and 12-packs or in branded 32 oz. Hydro Flasks (insulated stainless steel bottles). Four-glass flights and 64 oz. growlers are also coming to the tasting room.
The space will also be the only physical place where fans of the brand can buy merchandise like T-shirts and koozies, according to the release.
Having the tasting room has been a long time coming for the cidery, which previously used the facility as an R&D space where the small-batch and special-release ciders were produced. Last year, Eastciders moved most of its operations from the Springdale spot to a massive warehouse space in Southeast Austin.
That 33,000-square-foot facility, 10 minutes from the Springdale location, has allowed for Eastciders’ massive growth of late. But now that Austin Eastciders cans are literally all over town in both retail and bar locations, the brand sought to fill another demand: the tasting room that fans had been clamoring for since 2013.
“Opening the tasting room allows us to host cider fans in our own space for the first time, which has been a major goal for the company,” CEO Johnny Heiselberg said in the release.
Expect regular live music; indoor and outdoor areas; and activities like cornhole, darts and board games at the tasting room, which is open starting next week at 979 Springdale Rd. Ste. 130. It’ll be open from 3 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 12 to 10 p.m. Saturdays, and 12 to 6 p.m. Sundays. Keep an eye on social media for more details about the launch party on Nov. 16. (A sneak peek of the space is on Nov. 12.)
