With Republic Square in the midst of an extreme makeover, the Downtown Austin Alliance is searching for someone to run a soon-to-open restaurant at the park.
The counter-service eatery is expected to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Downtown Austin Alliance said.
“The Downtown Austin Alliance, Austin Parks Foundation and City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department are excited to revitalize Republic Square and bring it back to its glory as a cherished communal place in the heart of our city,” Downtown Austin Alliance president and CEO Dewitt Peart said in a written statement. “The community’s vision and subsequent master plan called for daily activation of the park, including the need for a food vendor, so we are thrilled to have the chance to provide park users with what Austin is known for — amazing food and beautiful green spaces.”
In its call for proposals, the Downtown Austin Alliance cites successful food operations in parks in other cities, including Niko Niko’s in Houston’s Market Square and Shake Shack in New York’s Madison Square Park.
Proposals are due to the CBRE commercial real estate firm by Feb. 10. For more details, visit downtownaustin.com/daa/join-our-team.
